Our Barbie figurine looks more of Sookie Stackhouse from HBO's True Blood. Therefore, this cake will no longer be called the Barbie Cake. We now renamed it to the True Blood cake.
Hey Everyone! How was your weekend? We spent ours working on yet another couple lovey-dovey cake once again. As to when I will have the need to create a cake like this for my own benefit is beyond me. HAHA. (Sorry for the inappropriate self-centered side note)
Cam, my college friend, had planned on giving her boyfriend, B. Uy, a cake since December. I absolutely LOVED that she gave me more than a month to plan her cake. They’re the sweetie pateetie (er, that sounded wrong) couple who makes sundo (I know, how conyo!) each other after work, so on the weekdays they spend most of their time in the car after work and school.
So what better topper to put on the cake than a couple in their very own miniature sugar car? These are freshly made toppers, see how the sugar hasn't melted from the surface yet? HAHAHA
The flavor? Our best seller—Old School Chocolate Cake.
I had most fun making the tiny blue convertible. Genine made the cutsie retro couple in their matching periwinkle outfits. They’re so cute, aren’t they?
Cam and B.Uy cruising in the love zone. HAHA. Anddd, I think that’s my cue. To leave and stop torturing you guys with my badly written lines.
Thanks for dropping by at The Cake Shack!
Merry Christmas, everyone! I know it's not until 3 days from now BUT, there's been so much holiday cheer in the Cake Shack! We just finished the biggest and, might I say, most outstanding order we got this 2010. Tenenennnn---Grenade Cupcakes!
The story behind these awesome cupcakes? Well, let's just say they're giveaways for our client's office mates. Come on, if it weren't illegal, wouldn't we all give explosives to our favorite people in the whole world? *sarcasm*
But since it's Christmas and the spirit of giving is oh so alive (and real grenades will always be illegal), grenade cupcakes are the perfect giveaways to the people who need extra patience and grace.
Anyway, that's it for us! Enjoy the holidays, people! And remember, keep away from explosives. You don't want to lose your fingers first thing in 2011!
People often get the impression that since we're having so much fun in The Cake Shack, our job is easy and we're lucky we're earning from it. However, that is not always the case.
Take for example the latest fondant topper we made a couple of days ago. It was all assembled and ready to go, or I thought it was, when Genine innocently asked me where the head of the gum paste girl was. I rushed to the Cake Lab (where we make all our cakes) and almost went bananas when I saw the decapitated figurine that was about to be delivered in a couple of hours.
Don't get me wrong. I love my job despite the UNIMAGINABLE stress sugar can bring. Who knew sugar could be stressful, right? Genine and I had to fix the topper in the last minute, and as always, we pulled through. Here's the finished product:
In the end, everything was worth it. The birthday girl loved it and said it was "the best birthday cake ever." (this topper went on The Big Gay Rainbow Cake) And honestly, that's the most fun part of our job- to see the smiles on our clients' faces. Well, that sounded a bit corny but I'm not editing it out. Coz it's true. :)
Anyway, we'll talk to you soon. We're gonna have an EXPLOSIVE christmas. Stay tuned for the next blog post! *winkwink*
